Amateur baseball roundup: Alexandria holds off Dimock/Emery
EMERY -- Dimock/Emery loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the ninth but the Alexandria Angels held off the Raptors to win a Sunshine League amateur baseball contest 6-4 Thursday.
Trever Vermeulen was the winning pitcher, giving up 14 hits in nine innings.
Vermeulen struck out 15 batters in the win.
Chris Marek had three hits and three RBIs, while Cole Wenande recorded two hits for the Angels.
Josh Engquist suffered the loss, giving up six runs, two earned, on six hits in eight innings. He recorded eight strikeouts. The Raptors were led by Jason Schmidt with three hits, including two doubles. Phil Johnson added four hits.
Dimock/Emery (12-4) plays at Winot, Neb., at 5 p.m. Saturday. Alexandria (9-1), which beat Dell Rapids PBR 3-2 Tuesday behind pitcher Cory Marek, plays the Mitchell Mad Dogs at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cadwell Park in Mitchell.
Parkston Mudcats 13, Platte 4
PLATTE -- The Parkston Mudcats picked up their 14th win of the season Thursday with a 13-4 victory over Platte in a Sunshine League amateur baseball game.
Tom Murtha started the game for Parkston, giving up two runs, one earned, and striking out 11 in four innings. Brady Nolz was the winning pitcher, giving up two runs and striking Jeff Harris had four hits with two triples and two singles, while Matt Malloy had three singles in the win. Parkston's Tyler Nolz, Tom Murtha, Jeff Heisinger, Mike Lukkason each added two hits.
Platte's Hayden Kuiper had three singles and the losing pitcher.
The Mudcats (14-2, 4-2 SL) play the Parkston Bullheads at 2 p.m. Sunday in Parkston, while Platte (4-4) hosts Dimock/Emery at 7 p.m. Sunday.
Plankinton 10, 4-Corners 4
PLANKINTON -- The Plankinton Bankers beat 4-Corners 10-4 Thursday in an amateur baseball game.
Travis Gant was the winning pitcher, throwing 4.1 innings, and Chris Hill threw in relief the final 4.2 innings. Tate Gabriel suffered the loss.
Plankinton’s Rubin Earl and Trevor Salmonson each had a double and two RBIs, Hill recorded two doubles and Travis Gant and Jeremy Pischke each had two RBIs.
Justin Allen recorded a double and Chad Babcock homered in the loss.
The Bankers (8-7) plays at Armour at 7 p.m. Sunday.
