ALM Foundation awards grants to area projects
The ALM (Artesian, Letcher and Mount Vernon) Community Foundation board of directors recently awarded a number of semi-annual grants.
The following distributions were approved: Artesian Volunteer Fire Department, $1,500 for new furnaces for the Artesian Community Center and Fire Hall; Letcher Community Development Foundation, $1,000 for the purchase and installation of wireless Internet service for the Letcher Community Center and Fire Hall; Sanborn Central School District, $1,000 for the purchase of new scoreboards for the gymnasium; and Mount Vernon Youth Football, $1,500 for the construction of an equipment storage facility.
The ALM Community Foundation is an organization formed to attract and distribute gifts of capital for community betterment. It was initially funded by CorTrust Bank with a match from the South Dakota Community Foundation for Artesian, Letcher and Mount Vernon. The first grants were awarded in August 2000. More than $105,000 has been awarded since the group’s inception.
The foundation is managed by a board of directors that consists of people from the Artesian, Letcher and Mount Vernon communities, as well as CorTrust Bank. The current members of the board are Jeff Ebersdorfer from Artesian, Gibi Page from Fedora, Lori Kluth and Cheryl Hohbach from Mount Vernon, Sherri Stekl and Janet Maeschen from Letcher, and Liz Hoffman, Barb Metzinger and Don Threadgold from CorTrust Bank. The board meets twice a year to review grant applications. The next grant application deadline is Aug. 15.
