The Department of Game, Fish and Parks asked for the search after getting numerous reports of stranded hunters.

The agency could not immediately be reached for how many hunters might be stranded.

The Civil Air Patrol says planes will fly north of Highway 36 and 16A from Highway 79 to the Wyoming border. That's the main elk hunting area and the part of the hills that got the most snow.
