Aberdeen man gets 18 months in prison for threatening judge

ABERDEEN (AP) — A northeast South Dakota man found guilty of threatening a judge over documents he attempted to file in a foreclosure matter has been sentenced to three consecutive 6-month prison terms.

The Aberdeen American News reports Judge Mark Barnett has sentenced 77-year-old Eugene H. Paulson.

The newspaper reports Barnett told Paulson that he had considered giving him credit for 128 days served and letting him go free. But Barnett said Paulson had shown no remorse.

Paulson had been charged with felony counts of threatening or intimidating a judicial officer and offering a false or forged document for filing. The Rosholt man was also charged with a misdemeanor count of uttering a simulated process.

The charges stem from alleged threats made and documents Paulson attempted to file during a foreclosure proceeding.
