Fitts earns golfer of the week honor

Dakota Wesleyan University's Lauren Fitts was named Co-Great Plains Athletic Conference/ Hauff Mid-America Sports Women's Golfer of the Week.

Fitts shared the honor with North-western College's Emma Wynja.

The freshman, of Brookings, claimed first place at the GPAC Qualifier No. 1 with an 83 and led the Tigers to a first-place finish in the meet.

Wall tops Lyman

WALL -- Despite 17 kills and six blocks from Anna Flitner, the Lyman High School volleyball team lost to Wall 3-1 Tuesday night.

Set scores were 20-25, 26-24, 25-19, 25-22.

Chesney Garnos had 39 digs for Lyman and Bailey Almond had 22 assists.

Haley Halverson had four blocks and Bailey Lulf had two aces.

Lyman (6-5) travels to Chamberlain tonight.

Dakota Christian beats Wessington Springs in 4 sets

WESSINGTON SPRINGS -- Dakota Christian dropped the first set but came back to win the next three in a 3-1 victory over Wessington Springs in high school volleyball action Tuesday night.

The set scores were 19-25, 25-23, 25-23, 26-24.

Dakota Christian's Amber Baan Hofman and Brooklyn VanderPol each recorded 12 kills in the match. Baan Hofman also added 16 digs and two aces. Kennedy Muckey tallied 14 set assists, 12 digs and three blocks.

Wessington Springs' Traci Orth led all players with 26 set assists, nine blocks, eight kills and four aces. Shyanne Kopfmann had 13 blocks, 14 digs and five kills and Devin Tebay recorded 20 digs, eight blocks and five kills.

Dakota Christian (4-2) hosts Andes Central today, while Wessington Springs (2-8), which also won the JV game, plays in Kimball Saturday.

Morningside beats Tigers in 4 sets

SIOUX CITY -- The Dakota Wesleyan volleyball team suffered a 3-1 loss against Morningside College Wednesday. Set scores were 25-19, 23-25, 25-18, 26-24.

DWU overall record is 3-12 with the loss.

Rachel Tinklenberg led the Tigers with 11 kills and Briana Jung recorded 39 set assists and 11 digs in the game.

Danielle Bird had nine kills, 12 digs and one service ace.

Next, the Tigers play Concordia University at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in Seward, Neb.
