7-year-old dies in Friday crash near Scotland
SCOTLAND -- A 7-year-old child was killed Friday in a single-vehicle rollover on S.D. Highway 25 south of Scotland.
According to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, Kirstan Roubideaux was a passenger in a northbound 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass driven by 28-year-old Stephanie Kae Hamilton, of Yankton, when the vehicle left the roadway to the right, struck a field approach and rolled.
Roubideaux and another passenger, 5-year-old Colton Roubideaux, were not wearing seatbelts and were thrown from the vehicle in the crash. The 7-year-old died at the scene and the 5-year-old was taken to a hospital in Scotland with life-threatening injuries.
Hamilton was thrown into the backseat of the vehicle during the crash, but was able to flag down a passing motorist, who then contacted emergency personnel.
No further information was immediately available, according to the Department of Public Safety.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The Bon Homme County Sheriff's Office, Bon Homme Fire Department and Scotland Police Department assisted in the response.
