20 billboard applications pending in Sioux Falls
SIOUX FALLS (AP) — Billboard companies are gearing up to put up new signs in Sioux Falls following a change in zoning rules that has opened new areas to billboards in the city.
The Argus Leader reports that the city has received applications for 20 new billboards. Officials have already authorized 160 signs within city limits.
City rules dictate that the billboards must be at least 600 feet apart.
The newspaper reports that the roads with more advertising are those with high traffic including Minnesota and Cliff avenues, 41st and 10th streets, and along the highways.
The zoning rule change that voters approved in April has sparked a debate among those who see opportunity and others who worry the relaxed rules will result in a proliferation of large signs.
