Nearly 20 local groups put their chili to the test Sunday, competing in the annual Corn Palace Stampede Rodeo Chili Cook-Off.

In the overall competition, Big Daddy’s BBQ and Catering was throned as the 2018 Chili Cook-Off winner. Twin City Fan took second, while the Moose Lodge was third.

C&B Operations and Davison County Implement were the People’s Choice award winner, while Sturdy’s Smokin’ Hogs was the winner of the Best Camp award.

Community members were joyous to fill their bowls with chili on an 80-degree day, something many regular attendees aren’t used to experiencing during the event. According to the National Weather Service, last year’s temperature reached a high of 91 degrees during the Chili Cook-Off.

Dylan Hart, a chili cook-off regular, said the gorgeous day made the event a bit more enjoyable.

“It’s always fun regardless, but there are some really good chili recipes this year,” Hart said.
