Area Community Theatre reveals 2018-19 season lineup
The Mitchell Area Community Theatre is abuzz with excitement for the upcoming season.
Earlier this week, the ACT unveiled its 2018-19 lineup, which features productions for everybody, according to Gary Thury, an ACT board member and chairman for the 2018-19 season select committee.
"We tried to make sure we had a wide variety of options," Thury said. " ... There's lots of excited people."
The season kicks off in late July with the "family friendly" option of "Beauty and the Beast," followed by a murder mystery, "The Mousetrap," in October.
This year's Christmas classic will be "Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus" starting in late November and running through early December. 2019 will kick off with "Barefoot in the Park" in February and the season will conclude in May with "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee."
"I like the musicals the best," said Pam Iverson, the ACT office manager. "The first and last one I'm really excited about. But I'm anxious to see them all, it really is a good lineup."
Iverson and Thury both were stationed in the ACT office Tuesday morning selling memberships. According to Thury, this is the time most people come in to buy new memberships for the upcoming season.
But just as people have been stopping by, they've also been calling in, Iverson said, which is keeping the excitement going with the already busy theater schedule.
In less than a month the ACT will be showing "Blithe Spirit," but in the meantime a children's theater is happening this week. Thury said the group is also actively searching for directors for its upcoming season, with a deadline for applications in mid-March.
But they wouldn't have it any other way, Thury said.
"It never slows down," he said with a laugh. "We're very excited."
Anybody interested in buying a membership can call in or stop by the ACT office between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
