The Basin League existed from 1953-1973 in South Dakota and was home to one of the top semi-pro summer baseball leagues in the nation. More than 160 future major leaguers played in the Basin League, including Hall of Famers Bob Gibson, Jim Palmer and Don Sutton. Towns that fielded teams were Chamberlain, Yankton, Mitchell, Winner, Pierre, Rapid City, Sturgis, Watertown, Huron, Mobridge, Sioux Falls and Valentine, NE. (Cultural Heritage Center image)
